| The Central Pennsylvania Humane Society’s
annual “Pet Walk” (June 19th, Legion Park, Hollidaysburg)
will feature a new attraction this year. Grand Marshal and Altoona
Curve mascot “Diesel Dawg” will hitch a ride on the Sheetz
Corporation’s promotional vehicle, the “Sheetz Hummer,”
a brightly painted red, day-glo green and yellow all-terrain sport/utility
vehicle. Sheetz is sponsoring the event which raises funds to help
the homeless animals at the shelter.
“We’re proud to announce that Sheetz has stepped forward
to help with the event.” said CPHS Executive Director Dave
Hopkins. “The addition of the Sheetz Hummer along with Diesel
will make this year special.”
The walk-a-thon is organized to raise funds by pet walkers who
solicit sponsors. Those raising $25 or more will earn a special
edition tee-shirt. All who take part will receive CPHS water bottles
and bandannas for their animals regardless of donation amounts.
Walkers without pets will be given tags to wear showing their participation.
Celebrity walkers representing local media will take part by escorting
shelter animals on the walk.
Again this year the Grand Prize for the walker raising the most
donations is a special personalized portrait of their pet by local
artist Rachel DiAndrea (Pet Arts Studio). Second prize is a certificate
good for $50 towards any Veterinary bill. Third prize is a $30 gift
certificate to V.I.P. Pets and Aquarium (Altoona).
In addition to the walk, the event will feature a special pet obedience
demonstration by Lois Fogle of Fogles Dog Training and Boarding
(Ashville).
To register, pick up forms at local Veterinary offices, some area
businesses or the CPHS shelter at 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd.,
Thrift Shop at 22 E. Walton Ave. or call 942-2477 or 942-5402.
The event starts at 1:00 pm with registration followed by the walk
which steps off at 2:00pm. |
